About Me

i'm katie

As a lifelong Californian, I've become captivated by our state's complicated and diverse history filled with stories of bravery and social injustice. While earning my BA in Art History at California State University, Long Beach, I found my way to the construction industry, where I assisted with renovations of historic properties. In 2014, I founded We Are the Next, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to empower the next generation to engage with their cities so their neighborhoods can thrive. After founding We Are the Next, I earned my Master's in Heritage Conservation from the University of Southern California, and have continued to work with residents, nonprofits, cities, and design/development professionals.

i split my time

Today, I run We Are the Next part-time while working with local municipalities, property owners, and design/development professionals to enhance community awareness of upcoming developments, create preservation plans, and oversee renovations of historic properties.
